A Mathematical Attic

My first career was professional mathematician, and this site began as a way to preserve the bits of my teaching notes and observations that I thought could be of use to others studying or working in mathematics. That material is all still here, on the blog or linked below.

The product of my mathematical career I am by far the most proud of is my textbook, Computability Theory. It is a self-contained book for an undergraduate course in computability (recursion) theory with no prerequisites: the book has a chapter on relations, induction, logical and set notation, and other necessary background material. It was published in the American Mathematical Society’s Student Mathematical Library series, and you can find it at the AMS and on Amazon.

I have a teaching page, separated into mathematical topics, each listing my relevant teaching experience and blog posts. You can read about my former research, with a publication list and links to download most papers. I created a page of LaTeX resources, primarily to help teach upper level undergraduates its use. Elsewhere, I wrote a personal blog post about why I left my academic career.
